LAUREN YAP
Lauren is a queer, first-generation Filipinx filmmaker and organizer. They are a protagonist for PJ Raval’s Who We Become, a documentary on Netflix that follows young Filipino women during the pandemic as they engage in much-needed intergenerational conversations about the COVID-19 crisis and growing racial injustice during the first Trump presidency. They are also part of the collective developing I Need Space, a documentary spotlighting the resilience of the Austin queer community, who—like many others nationwide—are fighting simply to exist. Currently, Lauren is the associate artistic director for OUTsider, a local Austin queer transmedia arts festival.
